So it looks like the CEO of my company is going to greenlight my idea to start a company-sponsored LeMons team. I found a 1984 Civic that has already been race prepped for ITS but will probably need a few tweaks to the cage to comply to current LeMons spec. My questions:
Engine swap support: What are some options here? I want any car we choose to have some flexibility to replace the motor. 1984 Hondas were bulletproof enough but they weren’t exactly quick.
Tune-ability: Are there good options to punch-up the old E engines? I think this car has a 1.5L version but I’m not sure.

I agree with this. Keep it Honda by swapping in a J-series V6.

If you’re starting with an ITS car, it’s already not sounding very Lemons-y. To ramp up the LeMons, gank the original motor, find a
worse
motor, and install it where the rear seats were with whatever bits of scrap metal you can find. Your welcome.

Thanks! So, how stout is the stock trans? Should I plan to upgrade if I go with more power (assuming a newer mill will even bolt up)?

thats a different story.
your best bet is to just find a whole front clip/eng+ trans and dump it in

LeMons isn’t about power, it’s about reliability and lasting the whole race.

Yes I know. This isn’t my first Lemons team. Sometimes you can have both.

This response is a little late, but there aren’t many tuning options for the early D15 if it’s fuel injected. In fact, the Mugen SCCA team who ran a first gen CRX Si swapped it back to carburetion for ease of tuning. I think they ended up with 165 hp,
but it took some serious work
